Preparing for Exams No ratings yet.

* Avoid cramming at all costs! The weaker you are in a subject the more time you should spend practicing! Regular studying helps you retain information. Start studying for exams at least two weeks prior. Keep in touch with us through Facebook to get updates on our review sessions. Below is a guideline to follow when preparing for exams:

Until a week before your exam

*Ask your teacher what you need to bring into the exam (for example photo ID, ruler, calculator, pen, pencil, eraser, etc.).
*Study! (but take 10-20 minutes break for every hour of studying).
*Attend MyGradeBooster review sessions.
*Work with your tutor to clear up any unanswered questions.
*Focus on weak areas.

A week before the exam

*Do as many practice problem sets as you can. You can find previous provincial exam questions from http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/search/
*Practice in a test-like environment.
*Consult your tutor if you still do not understand something.
*Find out where your test will be written.
*Eat well and exercise.

A day before the exam

*Take it easy.
*Don’t think about the next day.
*Focus on being positive and confident – you’ve done your studying, you are ready!
*Get your exam material ready , for example pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, calculator, photo ID (confirm these with your teacher).
*Also pack tissues, a jacket or a sweater (dress in layers), small snack (eg. granola bar), water bottle, and a watch.

On the day of the exam

*Eat breakfast.
*Arrive at the exam location 20-30 minutes early.

Just before the exam

*Concentrate on what you know and focus on your strengths.
*If you have time, give a quick look over on your flashcards or review notes.
*Do NOT talk to any of your peers about the exam. This will just make you more anxious. Instead you can listen to music, do breathing exercises, and think about the freedom after the exam!
*Stay calm and positive. At this point, be optimistic and just do your best.

While writing the exam

*Read the instructions on the front cover carefully.
*Fill out your full name, date, and all the information completely.
*If you do not understand the instructions, put up your hand and ask.
*Read each question twice before you answer so that you don’t miss the key points or phrases.
*Answer every question.
*Don’t spend too much time on a question you are not sure about. Move on and come back to it at the end.
*Keep your positivity and confidence. Don’t get discouraged if you can’t answer a question.
*Don’t worry about your grade.
*work through questions quickly and continuously.
*Leave time at the end to check your paper before you hand it in.
